LIKE NAILS ON THE CHALKBOARD

I hate
the sound of nails on the chalkboard!
Even typing this
causes my back to stiffen.

So when Not-So-Little-Person asked me to:

Paper Pieced Hexagons {How I Spent My Evening}

Thankfully Hurricane Isaac landed
to the left of us!
Fortunately, we only experienced
long periods of heavy rain fall!

While listening to the steady
downpour,
I dug into my "newly cut" scraps
and

I added a few more hexagons
to my quilt.

Slowly but surely my hexagon quilt is growing.
You can find my previous hexagon update here.

Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers!

Preparing For Isaac

There is a Hurricane brewing in the Gulf of Mexico.

My sweet Southern state of Mississippi
is in its projected path.

Source

Last night I should have been at Walmart
(with the rest of the city)
stocking up on water, batteries, and candles.

Instead I sent Hubby and  I pulled out
my "untouched for months"
box of "large" scrap pieces.

As a Florida girl, this isn't the first storm
that I have been threw.
So my way of planning ahead was to cut up my scraps
and prepare a few projects
just in case
I don't have electricity, cable, or Internet.

So after about an hour of cutting,
I had these:

I cut three different sizes:
5" squares, 2 1/2" squares, and tumbler pieces.

I plan to spend most of my time
working on my "never ending" hexagons,
but I have the other piles just in case I get bored.

Oh yeah, I picked this up the day and I plan to give it
a try.

Well at least I will be prepared!

Paper Pieced Hexagons {An Update}

The Summer Olympics are over and I was sad to see them end!
I sat down and watched them every night after
the Little Person went to bed.

I knew that I needed a "hand project" to calm my nerves
during all of those memorable "nail-biting"moments.
I dug around in hopes of finding several
projects that I could work on,
but all I could find were my
"old faithful" hexagons.

So here is what I did while watching the Summer Olympics:

Of course, I didn't keep track of how many Grandmother's Flowers
I attached!

I just kept going...and going...and going....
because who knows when I will feel like picking up this project again.

INSTAGRAM-ING

I might be the last one to do this

but

I have joined in on the Instagram band wagon!

Instagram is a free app that allows you

take a photo, apply an effect to the photo,

and add them to you Instagram feed.

You can follow others and they can follow you.

You also have the ability to "like" photos

and leave comments.

I love it because it is like

"blogging in an instant".

If you are already IG-ing,

you can find me at:

I recently shared this updated photo of

my hexagons:

Obsessed With Hexagons

Lately

I have been obsessed with my hexagons!

I was able to connect a few of

my Grandmother's flowers together

while I was catching up

with my TiVo shows.

If you look closely

you can see that my Little Person's

homework is buried

underneath the hexagons!

Hexagon Update

Since Project Runway is over (insert sigh),

I have been catching up on all of

my regular TV shows.

This means that I have plenty of time

to work on my hexagons.

This week I sat down and completed

10 more Grandmother's Flowers.

I now have a total of

82 Grandmother Flowers

completed to date.

Total of 574 hexagons used.

Once I reach 100 completed flowers

I will begin to attach them together.

Maybe, just maybe,

I will be able to start attaching them together

before the end of the year.

Each flower is beautiful on its own,

but I can't watch to see how

they all look together.

Hexagon Update & Tips : Part 1

Several Bloggers have asked about my hexagons.

I am flattered that you guys enjoy seeing them

because sometimes I feel like I will never

finish this project!

For those of you that have asked,

here are the templates that I use:

And "YES"  I did order 600 pieces!

It seems like a lot, but in the end I will wind up

using all of them.

On my last update  I had used 427 hexagons.

There are so many  awesome tutorial out there

about hexagons.

Here are some of  my favorites:

So this is my hexagon tip:

Use your punch holder to make a hole in

the center of each paper piece.

This really helps out when you are trying to remove the

paper piece.
Simply slide a pencil or the end of your scissors

into the hole.

Lift to remove the paper piece.

This paper piece is now ready for re-use on another hexagon.

I hope that this helps out!

How I Spent My Summer (Part 2)

I thought that I would share a little bit more

about my version of hexagons.

I think that I do mine a little bit

differently.

My hexagon quilt is made up of MODA scraps

from my previous projects.

Whenever I complete a project,

I cut whatever pieces that I can into 2 1/2" squares.

Then I throw them into a box.

Whenever the mood strikes me,

I reach in and grab 6 squares.

I baste these squares and them sew them into a flower.

I don't baste my hexagons ahead of time because

I like the excitement of seeing the completed flower

and I love the scrappy, unplanned feel of each flower.

Here is an idea of what all of my flowers will look like :

Of course my Little Person had to lend a helping hand:

Someday I will start to attach each of the flowers

together but until then,

they will live nice and neat in my box.

How I Spent My Summer (Part 1)

I can't believe that it is already August!

Where did my summer go?

Well, I was "HEXING" it up like everyone else.

hosted a Hex-A-Long

I joined in on the fun a little bit late,

but I did manage to get quite a bit done.

My first post was here.

For awhile I was able to complete one

Grandmother's flower each day.

(I think that lasted about a week.)

So here we are at the end of summer

and this is where I am at:

21 Grandmother's flowers made since June 21, 2010.

I previously had 40 Grandmother's flowers made.

My grand total is 61 Grandmother flowers made.

(427) 1" hexagons used

I am aiming to complete 300 flowers.

So once again, I will be a grandmother

before I get this project done!
