CHRISTMAS UTENSIL HOLDER { A TUTORIAL USING MARMALADE FABRIC LINE}

 
CHRISTMAS UTENSIL HOLDER
 
Finished Size: 5 12/" X 9 1/2"
 
 
 
This is a FAST and fun way to dress up your holiday dinner table!
 
 
FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Jelly Roll or various 2 1/2" strips from your scrap basket. (I used 2 1/2" strips from the Marmalade fabric line by Bonnie & Camille. It is available in my shop ).
  • Ribbon or scrap fabric
  • Needle and matching thread

CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS
  • Choose seven 2 1/2" fabric strips. Cut them into 2 1/2" x 12" rectangles.

BLOCK ASSEMBLY

Note: All seams are sewn with a 1/4" seam allowance.

Step 1
  • Choose seven 2 1/2" X 12" rectangles.
 
 
 
Step 2
  • Decide on the placement of your 2 1/2" X 12" strips.




Step 3
  • Place the  2 1/2" X 12" strips Right Sides Together (RST).
  • Pin
  • Sew the strips together.

Step 4
  • Press the block open.



Step 5
  • With RST, pin the next 2 1/2" X 12" strip to the block.
  • Sew the strips together.
  • Press the block open.

Step 6
  • Repeat Step 5 until all seven 2 1/2" X 12" strips are sewn together.
  • Block should measure 14 1/2" X 12"




Step 7
  • With RST, fold the block in half.
  • Press lightly.

Step 8
  • Pin along the outside of the block.
  • Be sure to leave a  4" gap, which will be used to turn the block inside out.


Step 9
  • Sew a 1/4" seam around the outside of the block.
  • Be sure to start and end with a back stitch at the opening.

Step 10
  • Trim all four corners of the block.



Step 11
  • Reach into the opening and turn the block inside out.

Step 12
  • Use the eraser of  a  pencil to push out the corners.


Step 13
  • Lightly press the block.

Step 14
  • Whip stitch the opening closed.

Step 15
  • Fold up the bottom of the block 5".
  • Pin the sides.

Step 16
  • Sew both sides. Back stitch at the end for more stability.

Step 17
  • From your scrap fabric or ribbon, tie a bow.
  • Stitch the bow to your utensil holder.
  • Enjoy your utensil holder!



These Christmas Utensil Holders are quick and easy to make.
 
If you use a jelly roll , you can make 18 utensil holders!

  5. Is there any way to make the holder double as a serviette? (napkin?) Just thinking if you went DOUBLE WIDE and only folded it over (no stitches) it might be a lunch size napkin. Or would it feel too thick? Or require too much washing? Thoughts please!
