Hello to all of the Sweet fans that are here to
celebrate the release of the
Moda Bake Shop's
newest book!
celebrate the release of the
Moda Bake Shop's
newest book!
This is truly a great book filled with projects to celebrate
every occassion.
(My projects celebrate the 4th of July and birthdays but you will have to purchase the book in order to see them.)
While we are on the subject of celebrating,
I thought that I would share my favorite cake recipe.
It is SUPER easy and fun to make!
You can also download my recipe here.
Our favorite Moda Bake Shop
expert, Oda May,
stopped by earlier to get the "skinny" (ha ha)
on me.
Here is what Oda May asked me:
Oda May: What is your favorite holiday memory?
Me: I love the Fourth of July! I live in a small town and every Fourth of July our city puts on a big celebration. During the day, there is usually a parade. Once the sun sets, everyone meets at the park/lake for a concert put on my the Symphony. Before the fireworks and concert begin, there is a flyover done by the pilots from the Navy Base. A few years ago my husband was the lead pilot in the flyover! This was my favorite Fourth of July memory!
Oda May: Do you celebrate with cupcakes, cake pops, or just plain old cake?
Me: We (I mean me) usually celebrate with cake! My preference would be chocolate! The bigger the piece the better!
Oda May: Speaking of cake, do you prefer a corner piece or a center piece when eating cake? Or do you not like to discriminate?
Me: I like corner pieces because they have more frosting!
Oda May: If you could patchwork bomb a spot in your town, where would you choose and why?
Me: I would cover our City Hally with patchwork! It is located in the center of downtown and was originally built in 1915. The building recently underwent renovations to preserve its original architecture.
In my eyes, those grand steps would look beautiful covered in bright and bold patchwork!
Here is what it would look like with a little bit of
Simply Color by V and Co.
and
Odds And Ends by Cosmo Cricket:
Oda May: If you could have a quilt shop spree, which items would you snag off the shelf?
Me:That is an easy question! I would grab one jelly roll, layer cake, and charm pack of each fabric line just to be on the safe side!

I love jelly rolls because they are so versatile and you can use them other precursor to make interesting blocks.
ReplyDeleteI like fat quarter bundles the best, but I do like a time-saving jelly roll or layer cake when working with certain patterns.
ReplyDeleteI love fat quarter bundles b/c you can make anything with those---sometimes several things with one bundle! Of course, I also like the others, if I have a particular pattern in mind.
ReplyDeleteI think I will stick with jelly rolls as being my favorite precut. It seems to fit into my kind of quilting best.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on what project I am working on, but charm packs are my current favorite.
ReplyDeleteJelly roll strips would be my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI love fat quarter bundles for my true favourite lines, but I love a layer cake for other lines I like! So versatile!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the luscious recipe. My favorite precut is the fat quarter bundle. Enjoyed the pics.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway and recipe! My current favorite precut is the charm pack, but only because I'm in love with the current project I'm using them for! I'm sure whatever I use for my next project will quickly become my favorite then too!
ReplyDeleteAll the precuts are good! My favorite depends on the fabric line in question! I do have a lot of Jelly Rolls though!
ReplyDeleteI love all the pre-cuts, but find that fat quarters are the most practical!!
ReplyDeleteLOVED your patchwork bomb job!!! I know I just told the Kramer gals that I love the FLIRT line, but then I keep looking through the fabrics and the Mod Century Fat Quarter Bundle is just screaming to be purchased and stitched up! How ever do people decide which fabric to use???
ReplyDeleteThat looks and sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteI love the jelly roll precuts. You can get a decent sized quilt from using them and there are so many fun patterns for them.
The charm packs, I love the Coquette colors!! It's really hard to choose tho, it depends on the project I have in mind.
ReplyDeleteI usually go for charm packs. They are so much fun to create with!
ReplyDeleteI love layer cakes - gives me options of either cutting them into charms or using the 10" squares - always tend to select the wonderful bright and colorful new lines of fabric - give punch to any project. Thanks for this opportunity from Judy C
ReplyDeleteI really do enjoy Moda's jelly rolls. Just easy to work with and there are so many quilt patterns that uses jelly rolls now. Just the right size and makes quilting so much fun. Really do need to win a copy of that book now. Now that it is fall and the leaves are turning, I can see myself quilting a lot of projects from that awesome book. Thank you for the chance to win and your recipe is definitely a keeper.

You asked that question and my brain went Uuuuuhhhh. That is one of those pick your favorite child questions. I'll say fat quarters, since you can usually cut those into many other shapes and sizes.
ReplyDeleteFat quarters for me but jelly rolls are a close second! And your cake recipe...YUM!
ReplyDeleteThe first quilt I made was used with charm packs so they will always be special to me. Lately though it's been all about fat quarter bundles. Love them!
ReplyDeletelayer cakes are great! you can get four charm packs out of one.... or do big block projects.... I can stretch a layer cake a long long way!
ReplyDeleteI love layer cakes....sweet amount of fabric to enjoy. XXX
ReplyDeleteCharm packs are my favorite pre-cut. Just love 'em.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pre-cut at the moment is "Sophie" by Chez Moi. I used it to make a Chubby Chicks quilt. The bright colors and happy prints were perfect for my chicks.
ReplyDeleteLove your City Hall Makeover :) Fat quarter bundles and layer cakes are my favorite depends on the size of the project which one I get! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI love pre-cuts. The charm packs are my favorite. Just little bits of every color - I love to flip thru them and plan quilts - they make great wallhangings to practice a full-size quilt idea on. Of course fat quarter bundles are ever so much fun too.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precuts are layer cakes. Love the variety and versatility of those 10" squares!
ReplyDeleteI sure do love those charm packs. I love to see all the beautiful colors. The pre cuts are all like candy. So yummy and good.
ReplyDeleteSince I do a lot of applique, I like layer cakes, but I'm with you--a nice stack of fat quarters can't be bad!
ReplyDeleteI love jelly rolls! (Who wouldn't love a little bit o' jelly?! haha)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity!

I love layer cakes! So much to do with them. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI always buy the charm packs, but try to get layer cakes if I love the line. You can get a couple or a few projects out of it. Love the building covering! I Love Color is on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteI love fat quarter packs because you can do so much with them!
ReplyDeleteI love all the pre-cuts but I buy mostly charm packs with jelly rolls a close second. Your recipe sounds yummy!!
ReplyDeleteCharm packs because they're cost-friendly and you can play around with them so nicely! Thnaks and greeitngs from germany, Hildy
ReplyDeletehildy(at)ebertzeder(dot)de
I buy jellyrolls. I have several waiting for me to make them into a quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love all the precuts but especially think the minis are adorable!!
ReplyDeleteI made it in time! I've been here in CA caring for mom and with a ver slow Internet to boot! Can I say I love all precuts? I use em all! Until next time....enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love jelly roll. I can make lots of beautiful jelly roll quilt.
ReplyDeleteFat quarters, but really I love all precuts.
ReplyDeleteI love jelly rolls but usually end up with charm packs...
ReplyDeleteI am interested to see what you make with all those 1" squares, wow! I pick fat quarters for pre cuts, more visual fabric to work with.
ReplyDeleteI like fat quarter bundles best, but charm packs are great too.
ReplyDeleteI like the charm packs, but i'm loving the mini charms. I'm going to be teaching a little one how to sew and i think those are going to be perfect for her to handle.
ReplyDeleteWhich pre-cut size I like depends on the pattern I'm using or what I've designed. I love the charm packs for Miss Rosie's Schnibbles but other squares may need a different size. Probably the best all-around size is a fat quarter pack. Your recipe sounds yummy!!!
ReplyDeleteHELLO! LOVE THE FAT QUARTERS BEST!
ReplyDeleteTHANKS FOR SHARING!
msstitcher1948@yahoo.com
I like all the precuts - but layer cakes are so versatile, I think I like them the best!
ReplyDeleteI love all the size but my stash is full of fat quarter and charm packs. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precut is fqs of a collection because it gives me the variety I love and know that the fabrics will "go together".
ReplyDeleteI love fat quarter cuts... charm packs are great for mini projects, too... Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI love fat quarters...but often buy layer cakes since it's better on my budget :)
ReplyDeleteI find that I buy more fat quarter bundles. Charm packs are a close second. What a fun blog hop this has been so far!
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm working on a quilt using 6 Moda Charm Packs. My last quilt used a Moda Jelly Roll. As you can see, I'm hooked!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE all things MODA, including all the pre-cuts. I have mostly used charm packs but I think FAT QUARTERS are the best - so many options!!
ReplyDeleteI love layer cakes, a little slice of each print. I would say fat quarter bundles, but I can't afford them!
ReplyDeleteI have to say my favorites would be fat quarters but, I usually get charm squares just so I can have a little bit of the fabrics I love with out going over my "fabric budget".
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would be the fat quarter bundles. I generally buy charm packs though because they are less costly and I can get a larger variety of the different fabric collections.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would have to be fat quarters, I love having enough fabric with some
ReplyDeleteadded background to see how many projects that I can come up with to use the fabric
to get the most mileage out of it. It does keep me entertained for a bit and it keep
at it, until every bit has been put to good use. Thanks for the great recipe, and
the chance to win.
I love fat quarter bundles. Since I seldom buy fabric with a specific project in mind, having FQs gives me flexibility to do a variety of things. Right now, if I could own a FQ bundle of the new line Simply Color I would be over the moon.
ReplyDeleteI love charm packs because I love small quilts!
ReplyDeleteLOL I love the way you think!~ I would try to snag one of each too. :-) I do love FQ's though, and layer cakes.... and jelly rolls! LOL See? They are all my favorites! Thanks for the chance! Have a great weekend!

my favorite pre-cut is charm squares because I can have fabric from so many more lines, but i am addicted to jelly roll quilts and have quite a few waiting to be made!
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are fat quarter bundles. Preferably the ones with all of the fabrics. lol. I feel like I have more options that way, plus I have dies to cut pretty much any of the other precut shapes in my big shot pro.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of charm packs as you get the complete range in a small package!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite precut is the fat quarter bundle. Although I do like the charm packs too. with the fat quarter I have a bigger piece and I have one from each of the designs in that line of fabric, and it is MORE fabric.
ReplyDeleteI like the charm pacs. This way I can see all the colors and patterns of a line and then decide which to buy yardage of. I also like the little 2.5" squares, called Candy i think? Anyway cuts down on the cutting which is my least favorite part of quilting.
ReplyDeleteThank you for a chance at the give-away. I love so many pre-cuts but would have to say the charms are my favourite! Such a variety of beauties to play with!
ReplyDeletemgw070 at shaw dot ca

ReplyDeleteHello! I liked the prints you chose to "brighten" the building's windows.
